Nomination Criteria

The purpose of the NACOBA Awards is to recognise old students and staff, past and present, dead or alive, who have made significant achievements in society, and whose accomplishments, affiliations and careers have honoured the Namilyango College core values of: honesty and integrity, innovation, respect for human dignity, Christ-centered holistic formation, and excellence.

Previously, a call was sent out to old boys to nominate their preferred candidates according to a list of categories published. Each nomination was to be supported by at least two reasons and had to be seconded by at least one other old boy. The nomination and secondment were then sent by email or text message to the NACOBA Executive contact person for collation. At the closure of the nominations window, all collated data was then shared with the Nominations Committee for verification and qualification to ensure that all candidates nominated fulfilled the nomination criteria. The Awards Committee then evaluated and voted the best candidates from the qualified list of nominees

For the 2023 Awards, the Nominations Committee decided to change the selection process to have a technical evaluation and selection of nominees done by the Committee while the old boys would then vote from that list of nominees using an electronic voting system for purposes of transparency.

An awardee in a particular category does not qualify for nomination in the same category in the following Awards year.

Also, members of the NACOBA Executive and Awards Committees do not qualify for nominations.

The Awards Committee divides itself into sub-committees and co-opts other old boys with technical competence to identify and shortlist nominees. A measurable evaluation criterion is developed to ensure that all names proposed/presented by these sub-committees are subjected to it. This is intended to remove personal biases.
Each sub-committee then sits independently, scores its respective nominees in accordance with the criterion, and then submits results to the central Nominations Committee.

Based on the results presented and verified by the committee, a nominees list for all the categories, except the President’s Award, is presented to the NACOBA Executive, which subsequently publishes it to all old boys for voting and determining this year’s Awardees.

The NACOBA President`s Award is only decided by the President and not subjected to the Committee process.
